Literary World Cup – Round 3 Group B

Since Australia is out and I never got to mention them I am suggesting Marcus Zusak’s The Book Thief as a way to send them off. See you in the Round of 16 Chile and Netherlands.

The Shadow of the Wind

Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Daniel, the son of a book dealer, finds a book named The Shadow of the Wind by Julián Carax and becomes fascinated with the author. While trying to find the author’s other works, Daniel discovers somebody is destroying all of Carax’s books, and what was simply a quest for books becomes a story of mystery and murder.

Silent Extras

Arnon Grunberg

Ewald, Michael (a.k.a. Broccoli), and Elvira are three aspiring actors trying to make it in Amsterdam. The three come up with foolish schemes in order tobring them the recognition they desire. The winding schemes and plots take this novel to the world of the farcical in a very memorable way.
